Design under duress
The Rocky Mountain News, the major newspaper in Denver, Colorado, published its final edition today. The announcement was made to staff only yesterday, just days short of the paper’s 150th anniversary. This is the economic downturn at its worst.
I tip my hat to the graphic design staff at the News, who manged to push past their personal feelings of shock and grief to produce this astonishing front page. Click to view full size.

Having looked at their excellent web site, I had to laugh out loud at the comment left there which suggested the paper never fully adapted to the web. If that’s what passes for a poor newspaper web site there, look what we have to put up with.
